When it comes time to replace the windows in your San Diego home, you have lots of options. You can purchase them from a replacement window dealer, from your local big box store, through a general contractor, or even directly from certain manufacturers. So, what’s the best way to go if you’re a San Diego homeowner looking for quality, energy-efficient windows at a fair price, installed by people who know what they’re doing?
Out of all of the options listed above, we recommend going with an independent replacement window dealer that is also a window contractor—a company that is able to install the windows you purchase from them. Here’s why:
A Licensed Window Contractor Has Specific Training and Skills
A replacement window dealer that is also a licensed San Diego window contractor is what you’re looking for. A company like this will hold a “C17 – Glazing license” from the Contractors State License Board (CSLB). Companies with this type of license specialize in window installation, as opposed to general contractors, who perform a broad range of construction work. When it comes to window installation, you definitely want to work with a specialist—someone who is specifically trained in window installation and knows the tricks of the trade.
It should be noted that when you purchase windows from a home improvement store, the store outsources the installation to subcontractors, who may or may not be experienced in window installation. It is also the case that some replacement window dealers outsource the installation to subcontractors, so make sure you ask exactly who will be installing the windows you purchase from any company in San Diego.
A Replacement Window Dealer Can Give You Access to Better Windows
Some of the best replacement windows on the market aren’t available in retail stores. This means you can’t buy them at Lowes, Home Depot, or any of the other local hardware stores. A general contractor likely won’t have access to them either. Top replacement window brands in San Diego, such as Anlin Windows, are only available to authorized replacement window dealers. This is because the top brands want to protect their reputation, and therefore don’t want just anyone selling and installing their products. Authorized sellers need to be knowledgeable, and installers need to go through factory training before they are allowed to work with these select manufacturers of replacement windows.
You’ll also get multiple options of window brands from a replacement window dealer. From there, you can pick the brands that meet your needs and fit within your budget. A good replacement window dealer will be able to explain the differences among the various brands on the market, so you can make a truly informed choice. When you purchase directly from a manufacturer, on the other hand, you only get access to the products within their brand, and the information they give you about their brand (and other brands) will most likely be biased. If you decide to buy directly from a replacement window manufacturer, you should do your own homework beforehand to make sure their products are the quality you’re looking for.
How to Choose the Best San Diego Window Contractor
Before going with an independent window dealer to purchase and install your new windows, take the time to do a little research. Read online reviews about the various companies in your area. Go to their websites and see what types of services and warranty they offer on their installation (if any). And finally, get several quotes from reputable window contractors in San Diego. Not only will you be able to compare prices, but you will also get a good idea of what it will be like to work with the company before you sign a contract.
