‘Home Town’ Stars Ben and Erin Napier Talk Life With Their Daughters, Spring Cleaning, and More

Home Town‘s dynamic duo, Erin and Ben Napier, are making major career moves as they welcome a new family member and dive into season 6 of their hit HGTV home renovation series. Country Living caught up with the Erin and Ben about their latest accomplishments, including a partnership made in heaven, tips for homeowners, family life, and something that’s on every fans’ mind — the future of Home Town Takeover.

Inside the Napiers’ latest partnership

As home renovation experts, Ben and Erin, aren’t strangers to the ins and outs of keeping a clean home. In the latest season of Home Town, the couple has transformed a cozy cabin, renovated a century-old residence and flexed their interior designing styles, but despite the different projects, one thing remains constant — hardwood flooring. That’s why their latest partnership with Swiffer just makes sense.

“It’s always shocking to me the way people are afraid of wood floors and it’s something that’s never occurred to me because we’ve always had wood floors in our houses,” said Ben. As a woodworker himself, Ben mentioned that he always grew up with hardwood floors and is one of the reasons he and Erin were drawn to their Laurel, MS, house. “It’s always been this idea or myth that wood floors are hard to take care of and high maintenance which has always been interesting to me.”

Their best spring cleaning advice

With spring is upon us, who better to ask about some much needed spring cleaning advice than HGTV’s own house experts. Now that they’ve added a new four-legged friend to the mix — a dog named Baker — you can bet things can get a little messy. Along with a complete exterior pressure wash, the Napiers head inside for a deep clean.

We’re not talking just a little dusting and vacuuming. They suggest pulling all the furniture away from the walls to mop underneath. Erin admitted, “After both the girls finish their breakfast, it’s time to get out the Swiffer. There’s always a mashed strawberry or a mashed banana on the floor.”

“Or a crushed Cheerio,” Ben added.

The couple admits that if homeowners are short on time (or in some of our cases, just too lazy), focus on the high traffic areas like the front and back doors, kitchen, etc.

And don’t forget to get the kids involved

Although, Mae isn’t quite old enough yet, her big sister Helen is there to help Erin and Ben around the house. According to the couple, she helps with dishes, laundry, and even taking care of Baker.

At just 4, Erin mentioned that Helen’s already started to take interest in their home renovation career and is setting boundaries in the Napier house. When they’re not busy watching the newest episodes of Home Town, Helen visits Ben in his wood shop, but he admits that even though Helen loves loud music, she can’t stand loud noises so maybe woodworking isn’t in the cards for her.

Erin says, “She doesn’t like things that are messy or dirty. She doesn’t like it when Ben comes home with saw dust on him.” Ben admits that one of the best parts of having kids is coming home to their excited faces, but if he forgets to dust off after being at the wood shop, Helen demands he takes his boots off and hop in the shower immediately. The best part? She reports Ben’s wrong doing straight to Erin.

The future of Home Town Takeover

After fans were wowed with the transformation of Wetumpka, AL, in Home Town Takeover, we’ve been curious to know when to expect the next season. Unfortunately, the Napiers aren’t heading anywhere anytime soon. Erin kept things real in this tweet about it:

Even though there are no immediate plans to start filming the next season, we did ask the Napiers what small town they’d like to head to next.

“Oh gosh there are thousands!” said Erin. “We got snippets of all of these little towns and we would love to go to all of them. You can learn a lot from other towns. There’s a lot of lessons to learn”.

In the meantime, we’ll be catching up on the latest season of Home Town on discovery+.
